Project overview.

Honoring women, empowering mothers.

On International Women’s Day, Wilmbi turned compassion into action by joining hands with our dedicated team in Cameroon to celebrate the strength, resilience, and dignity of women, particularly new mothers. The event took place at Limbe District Hospital, where dozens of women had recently brought life into the world under often challenging circumstances. Rather than marking the day with speeches and flowers alone, we wanted to uplift women in a tangible way, through care, respect, and solidarity. Our aim was simple yet powerful: to remind new mothers that they are not alone, and that their wellbeing matters to all of us. This was more than a gesture of kindness. It was a statement of commitment to maternal health, women's dignity, and the role of community in caring for caregivers.

What we delivered.

Meeting needs with dignity and care.

Working closely with the compassionate staff at Limbe District Hospital, our team carefully identified the most impactful items to support postpartum mothers in their recovery journey. We provided essential hygiene kits containing sanitary pads, soap, baby wipes, and antiseptic creams, fundamental tools for maintaining health and comfort after childbirth. Nutritional supplements and multivitamins were also included to aid in physical recovery and support lactation. For their newborns, we delivered baby care packages filled with diapers, gentle cleansers, and soft baby clothing. To bring added relief and warmth, we included comfort items such as soft towels, nursing pillows, and supportive wraps. Every package was assembled with intention, offering more than material aid, it was a heartfelt expression of solidarity, dignity, and care from one community to another during one of life’s most tender and transformative moments.

Why this matters.

The right to safe motherhood.

Maternal healthcare remains a pressing issue across many parts of the world. In Cameroon, many women give birth in hospitals with limited resources, facing challenges such as understaffed maternity wards, inconsistent supplies, and high postnatal health risks. New mothers often leave the hospital without the basic essentials needed to care for themselves or their babies, especially in underserved areas like Limbe. This project served to bridge that gap, ensuring that mothers felt supported, seen, and celebrated. By focusing our International Women’s Day efforts on maternal care, we underscored a critical truth: celebrating women means supporting them in every stage of life, including the vulnerable and sacred journey of childbirth.

Moments that moved us.

When kindness meets courage.

The air in the maternity ward was filled with quiet gratitude and soft smiles. As our team handed out care packages, mothers, some exhausted, some still in pain, offered nods of appreciation and whispers of thanks. One young mother clutched her newborn tightly as she received the package and said, “No one has ever done something like this for me.” That simple statement echoed why this work matters. Staff at Limbe District Hospital welcomed the initiative with open arms, expressing heartfelt thanks and sharing stories of the challenges new mothers face each day. The event brought together nurses, volunteers, Wilmbi representatives, and the community in a shared moment of compassion and celebration. It reminded all of us that giving is not just about goods, it’s about recognition, respect, and emotional connection.

Looking forward.

Toward ongoing maternal health support

This International Women’s Day initiative in Cameroon was just the beginning. Wilmbi is now exploring ways to support maternal health in Limbe and similar communities through consistent partnerships and targeted interventions. Future plans include maternal education workshops, postnatal follow-up care programs, and sustainable supply drives for rural and urban clinics. We are also working on empowering local women’s groups to take the lead in identifying needs and shaping solutions. Because empowering women means more than celebrating them once a year, it means investing in their wellbeing every day.
